What You Do Daily Defines Who You Become

Everyone on the planet has different habits. Some people get up at the same time every morning, some go walk the dog every evening at six.

Then there’s the people who wake up and the first thing they do is look at their phone, instant dopamine.

Instant dopamine, also known as instant gratification, is the absolute killer of long term happiness and progress. It feels good in the moment, but doesn’t take you anywhere further.

I’m going to show you some of the habits i have personally implemented in my life, that i greatly benefit from.

Wake Up at the Same Time Every Day

It’s not about early mornings – It’s about waking up with purpose. Having a set time you have to get up no matter what.

When you control the start of the day, you control the entire outlook of the day, the tone of it. Work shifts? I understand. Pick a time for every different shift, and stick to it. And that consistency will train your mind into thinking: I’m in charge.

Move Your Body Daily

I don’t care what you do, if you go to the gym for two hours, or run several kilometers every morning. Or just do 20 pushups and a walk.

DO something, it will build mental endurance and self-respect along with it.

When i started excersising, i did not like it whatsoever. But i knew that for the long-term, this is the best thing i can do. And now i enjoy working out, it’s also just a habit of mine, because i just got up and did it, without caring if i wanted to or not.

Do One Thing You Don’t Want To

Every Single Day.

Make it a rule: Do something you don’t want to do, every day.

Doesn’t matter what, wheter it’s a cold shower, a workout or as simple as cleaning the dishes. The point is to remind yourself, that you’re in charge, not your feelings.

Plan Tomorrow Before Bed

Discipline is built on having a structure, a system. That’s where it thrives. Decision fatigue destroys this for many people. Do the hard things, but make it as easy as possible to do them.

  • Gonna shower in the morning? Bring your fresh clothes out so they’re ready for tommorow.
  • Instead of cooking healthy meals everyday, cook for the entire week in one go.
  • Pack your gym bag, work bag or whatever in advance, so you can just grab it and go.

The point is to make as hard as possible to fail. This is what having a system is all about. Small preparation that saves alot of time and wasted energy later.
